Today we’ve got a photo of my great grandfather Guy Spencer mowing his yard in Lincoln, Nebraska. I love this photo. Guy looks so dapper with his hat, slacks, and button up shirt. I’m so glad technology has advanced to the point where I don’t have to use a contraption such as this to mow my yard :)
Nikon 9000 ED b/w negative scan. For reference, Guy was born June 5, 1893.
Today we’ve got a power shot of the Ekwall women. Just look at this picture taken between the 1920s and 1930s. Don’t these women look like they mean business? In the lineup we’ve got Velma Louise Ekwall (born July 11, 1918), an unknown woman (who I believe is her grandmother, just not sure on what side), followed on the far right by Mary Ella Abernathy Ekwall (born August 10, 1890). I’m not sure what year this photo was taken, but judging by how old Velma looks I’d guess the late 1930s. I love this photo :)
Nikon 9000 ED b/w negative scan.As promised, here’s my grandmother’s view from the rowboat date my grandparents took back in the 1930s. I love how I have the view from both sides of the rowboat. Enjoy!
Nikon 9000 ED black and white negative scan. Here are the other two posts from the series: Frances Ekwall in the Rowboat, and Kenneth Ekwall Before the Rowboat.
This past Christmas I had an opportunity to catch up with my dear friend, Scott. We’ve been friends for what feels like forever. We’ve lived in different states for several years now and it’s difficult to find time where our paths cross. When we met I told him about all the negative scanning I’ve been doing and how much fun it is for me to take regular trips down memory lane. He asked if I wouldn’t mind sharing some archived images from our a cappella days. So, Scott, here you have it, a little trip down memory lane :) These images span a small range, 1997 to 1999. Enjoy!
Yesterday I posted a picture of my grandfather taken by my grandmother on a date they took in the 1930s. They went for a row boat ride together. Today I’m posting a picture of my grandmother, taken by my grandfather, from the same date. Tomorrow I’ll post my grandmother’s view from this same row boat ride :)

FYI - my family still has the leather jacket being worn by Frances in this picture. We even did a photo shoot with my sister wearing it. I’ll try to dig up that image too :)
Today is my Dad’s birthday - Happy Birthday, Dad! To celebrate, here’s a shot from March 1980 of me with my Dad.
Here’s a shot of my grandfather on my mother’s side. I believe this picture was taken by my grandmother, Frances, while my two grandparents were on a date. From other pictures in my collection I can see that it looks like they went for a rowboat ride together. This picture was taken before they got in the boat. I think he looks rather stylish :)
Here’s a picture of my Great-Grandfather, Guy Louis Spencer. He’s the boy on the right. Guy was born June 5, 1893 in Champaign County, Illinois. He’s obviously a young boy in this photo, I’m just not sure what age. I’m also not sure if this was taken in Illinois or Nebraska. Regardless, here he is!
One of my goals this year is to share more from my growing Family History image archive. So, let’s get started. To begin we have a shot of my mother from September, 1959. Enjoy!
